Beyerdynamics DT 880 ( 250 Ohm) are robust and comfortable. They have an adjustable headband and the circumaural soft and velour ear pads are replaceable. You can hardly feel the ear pads which is highly appreciated for extended listing hours.
The have a single sided cable connection with coiled cable that can stretch to 10 ft . The jack is 1/8” with a screw-on 1 / 4 ” adaptor.
They deliver a neutral, detailed and clear sound, with an accurate playback that can reveal flaws in bad recording or mastering. This makes them are ideal for mastering and mixing.
Although they have an exceptional bass and teble extension , some say they go a little bit to high into high frequencies that can appear too crispy and sharp and the bass response would be too low for enjoyable listening.
Thought, they deliver a neutral, detailed and clear sound, with an accurate playback that can reveals flaws in bad recording or mastering. This makes them are ideal for mastering and mixing.

The Beyerdynamics DT 880 are created for mixing purposes and they are among the best headphones for mixing in that category. You might find the sound ‘too’ detailed for enjoyable listening and they weren’t built for that .
Even thought it is not recommended to use headphones for mixing, it is not always possible to use monitors. In my case, I live in a flat and I can’t use my monitors passed a certain hour. (Well, I could but I won’t if you know what I mean…)
For mixing purposes those will do the job just fine but for easy listening, less. Bass might sound flat and highs to crispy if you haven’t added the right amp.
They will be a first choice for mixing though and will deliver the most accurate playback without hiding flaws.
So if you want headphones that possess both qualities you might choose an other model. The Beyerdynamic dt 770 pro 250 ohms might be a better choice if you are looking for true rich sound definition and enjoyable listening. Excellent for classical music, to hip-hop, to big-budget movie soundtracks and will please even the most discerning audiophile.
Beyerdynamic st 880 250 VS Beyerdynamic dt 880 premium 600 ohm headphones?
For a home recording studio, the DT 880 600 ohm is a good choice but slightly more expensive ( 299 $) It is the 250 ohm version above, and has the same characteristics but with slightly more finesse, and thus less piercing in the highs .
I heard a lot of people complain about the Beyerdynamics’ durability, not lasting more than 6 months with extensive use. Adding the fact that you might need an amplifier if your equipment is not rated to power 250 to 600 Ohm to optimize the impedance range. (most playback devices are rated to 216 to 32 Ohm) and the price range, I personally think that Beyerdynamics DT 880 250 Ohm are among the best studio headphones for mixing but there are some cheaper options.
